Avatar

Sitting in my house very bored on a friday night I was just watching the tv and an advert for the new movie Avatar came on and I had been talking about it earlier in the week with some friends so I checked the local cinema times and rounded up some friends and we got into my car and headed out. We got as far as the next village when my car started making funny noises and juttering back and forth going along the road. My car is just coming up for 10 years old now, and getting slightly past its best, and I don't think there are many original parts of it left. Anyway like I said we made it as far as the next village and decided to turn back and one of the others drove us into town. This then made us late, so as we tore down the M8 and tried to find a space somewhere in Glasgow on a friday night we didn't think we were going to make the last showing, and then arriving at the cinema to see the que right out of the building we had little of hope of even getting into anything they were showing.....
We stood in the que for about 20 mins and just made it into the screen with minutes to spare, sitting down to the screen reading "Please put your Real 3D glasses on." The cinema was absolutely jam packed, hardly a seat to be found and my friend turned to me and said this movie has been out for nearly a month now and still look at the crowd its pulling in.
After all the hype and build up I had high expectations for the movie and I can gladly say that all my expectations were met and more! It was fantastic, I sat in my seat in the same position the whole movie with my mouth wide open and my eyes glued to the screen.
The effects were amazing, and the 3D was also superb. This is the 3th or 4th movie I've been to see in 3D recently and I definitely think this is the way forward for the ultimate cinema experience. However, what made Avatar different and stand out from all the others was there was no gimmicky 3D tricks with things jumping out of the screen at you, it was just used well along with all the other special effects to heighten the 3D experience. The story line itself is really interesting and you soon feel a part of the world of Pandora and attached to the characters which helps, because I have seen a few movies that have awesome special effects but are lacking in the story causing people to easily lose interest. For someone who studies design I was going to the movie thinking I would be gripped by the aesthetics and the aesthetics only and this wasn't the case, don't get me wrong the specials effects were amazing, and I was left speechless but the accompanying story line made it all that little bit more amazing.
Leaving the cinema the whole way home in the car we talked about the movie, how good it was and how it lived up to its expectations and one of my friends who has never been to see a 3D movie before was stunned, and turned and said 'that's the way to do it!' And I couldn't agree more, and would recommend everyone to go and see it!
